The future of the ‘Arab World’ urban environment

The future of the ‘Arab World’ urban environment will be debated on 13 and 14 April.  It will be held Qatar.  Smart Cities of the MENA is on the agenda for the Doha event.

The major theme at the event will be ‘smart cities’.


The 4th Annual Arab Future Cities Summit Qatar is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning of the State of Qatar and is sponsored by Microsoft.

Among the topics to be addressed will be “citizen empowerment in the context of smart cities”.  Sustainable design will be on the agenda as well.

CityNext programme that focuses on the four latest technology trends—big data, cloud, mobile, and social—in government, the education, health, and public safety sectors will be presented to the audiences.

Ali Nimer of Microsoft Gulf will be speaking at the summit on “Doha Next: Enabling Real Impact for Better Tomorrow.”

He was reported as recently saying: “We are fully committed to supporting governments in this region with their transition from resource-based to a knowledge-based economy.

“Our participation in the Arab Future Cities Summit last year facilitated valuable connections with key stakeholders from the Public and Commercial Sectors, and provided us with the proper platform to discuss Microsoft’s CityNext Initiative which offers cutting-edge technologies as well as innovative and holistic solutions that can make this transition happen.”

Another gathering will be convened in Qatar.  It is ARAB FUTURE CITIES SUMMIT 2016 .   Excerpts of the invitation goes like this :

Qatar’s most established smart cities event, Arab Future Cities Summit 2016, in its fifth year now, is held under the patronage of Ministry of Municipality and Environment Qatar.

The summit will take place on 11th  and 12th  April 2016 at The Ritz-Carlton, Doha.  The two-day Summit will broadly reflect the many new developments arising in the State of Qatar.

The 5th  Annual Arab Future Cities Summit Qatar 2016 will be a convergence of great minds in the field of smart city development to discuss path-breaking ideas and share the experience on how to take the best benefit of sustainable infrastructure.
